ABOUT THE ROLE
The Lead Software Engineer will translate business needs into technical strategies, processes, and scalable software solutions for a complex distributed platform. This role is approximately 50% hands-on development and 50% leadership, guiding one front-end developer and one back-end developer throughout the software development lifecycle. The engineer will lead the modernization of legacy services, establish architecture standards, and oversee projects from requirements gathering through deployment and production support. This position reports to the Director of Software Engineering and offers opportunities to develop team members while influencing technology and engineering practices.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Translate business needs into technical strategies, processes, and actionable project requirements
- Design and develop high-quality, performant applications, APIs, services, and database models
- Lead the migration of legacy .NET Framework services to .NET 8/10 while maintaining backward compatibility
- Establish and enforce microservices, API gateway, REST, and asynchronous messaging patterns across a distributed platform of more than 140 services
- Evaluate third-party integrations for reliability and security, including external service and payment-processing APIs
- Create and document scalable, maintainable software architectures aligned with functional and non-functional requirements
- Lead, coach, delegate work to, and evaluate a team consisting of one front-end developer and one back-end developer
- Collaborate with user experience designers, product managers, and business stakeholders to gather and refine requirements
- Review and approve application code while enforcing development, testing, deployment, and quality standards
- Oversee project delivery and post-release support, addressing blockers, tracking commitments, and recommending improvements to tools and engineering practices
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of experience building and supporting software systems
- Experience designing, decomposing, and maintaining distributed .NET microservices
- Experience with ASP.NET Core and .NET 6, 8, or 10, including middleware, API gateway patterns, and modern approaches such as FastEndpoints
- Experience modernizing legacy .NET Framework applications while preserving backward compatibility
- Experience with message-driven and event-driven architecture using MassTransit, AWS SQS, and saga orchestration
- Cloud and AWS experience, including SQS, Lambda, LocalStack, and cloud-native deployment
- Experience implementing structured logging, application performance monitoring, and distributed tracing across microservices, including Serilog
- Experience with relational database design and optimization
- Familiarity with React or Angular sufficient to collaborate effectively with front-end engineers
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar field, or a related certification
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, technical leadership, and team-coaching skills
- Ability to work onsite in Dublin, Ohio, three days per week and remotely two days per week
- Ability to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check
