Infrastructure Discovery & Credential Management Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Discovery & Credential Management Engineer to support a broader ServiceNow Modernization program. This role will focus on ensuring reliable discovery and scanning of enterprise network and server infrastructure by troubleshooting credentials, connectivity, authentication, and device-access issues.
The ideal candidate has a strong systems and networking background with hands-on experience across Windows Server, Linux/Unix, VMware/Hyper-V, routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. You should be comfortable troubleshooting protocols such as SNMP, SSH, WMI, and WinRM and working across multiple infrastructure teams to resolve discovery and access issues.
Experience with ServiceNow ITOM Visibility / Discovery is beneficial but is not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve credential issues across network devices and server infrastructure, including SNMP, SSH, WMI, and WinRM.
- Manage and validate access to network and hosting environments to ensure complete infrastructure scanning coverage.
- Triage connectivity and authentication failures involving routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, Windows/Linux servers, and other infrastructure.
- Partner with network and hosting teams to maintain accurate credential stores and appropriate access policies.
- Support Service Graph Connector configurations and ensure reliable data flow from infrastructure sources.
- Manage and optimize infrastructure discovery schedules around maintenance windows and scanning requirements.
- Troubleshoot network segmentation, firewall, authentication, and accessibility issues that interfere with infrastructure discovery.
- Document credential-management processes, known infrastructure issues, troubleshooting procedures, and resolutions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on network topology, device configurations, and server/hosting environments.
- Independently triage infrastructure issues and escalate appropriately when cross-functional support is required.
- Support additional objectives associated with the broader ServiceNow Modernization program.
Required Technical Experience
- Strong hands-on knowledge of enterprise network infrastructure, including:
- Routers and switches
- Firewalls
- Load balancers
- Network topology and device management
- IP addressing and network segmentation
- Strong systems/hosting experience with:
- Windows Server
- Linux/Unix
- VMware
- Hyper-V
- Hands-on experience managing and troubleshooting credentials across diverse network and server environments.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure and management protocols, including:
- SNMP v1/v2c/v3
- SSH
- Telnet
- WMI
- WinRM
- NetBIOS
- Experience diagnosing connectivity and authentication issues within enterprise environments.
- Understanding of firewall rules and network controls that affect infrastructure accessibility.
- Experience with infrastructure discovery, device discovery, or asset-scanning tools.
- PowerShell or Python scripting experience.
- Familiarity with CMDB concepts and Configuration Item (CI) classification.
- Experience working in large enterprise environments containing diverse infrastructure and device types.
- Experience working within ITIL-aligned processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- CompTIA Network+ or equivalent certification
- Experience with ServiceNow ITOM Visibility / Discovery
- Experience supporting Service Graph Connectors
- Previous involvement in ServiceNow modernization, CMDB, infrastructure discovery, or ITOM initiatives
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate will be a hands-on network/systems infrastructure engineer who understands how enterprise devices and servers are discovered, accessed, authenticated, and scanned.
This is not strictly a ServiceNow administrator role. The priority is deep infrastructure knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot why ServiceNow or another discovery platform cannot successfully reach, authenticate to, or collect information from a device or server.
Candidates with strong network engineering or systems administration backgrounds, combined with PowerShell/Python scripting and exposure to CMDB/discovery technologies, should be particularly well aligned.
